Ways to Add Books
BookVault offers three different ways to add books to your library. Which one you choose depends on how much information you already have about the book.
You can add books from both the Home screen and the Library by pressing the + button in the top-right corner.
Add Manually
Section titled “Add Manually”Create a completely empty book and fill in its information yourself.
This option is ideal when:
- The book cannot be found online.
- You’re cataloging a personal document or unpublished work.
- You want complete control over every piece of metadata.
After creating the book, you’ll be taken directly to the editing screen where you can enter all of its details.
Search Online
Section titled “Search Online”Search for books using BookVault’s online metadata providers.
Simply type a title, ISBN, or another identifying value, select the correct result, review the imported information, and add it to your library.
This is the fastest way to build your collection, as most information is filled in automatically.
For more information, see Searching Online.
Scan Barcode
Section titled “Scan Barcode”If you have a physical copy of a book nearby, you can scan its barcode instead of typing its ISBN manually.
BookVault will:
- Open the device’s camera.
- Detect the book’s ISBN barcode.
- Search the online sources automatically.
- Present the matching result for review before adding it to your library.
Scanning is simply a quicker way of starting an online search.
Note Barcode scanning requires a physical ISBN barcode. Older books or special editions without an ISBN may need to be added manually.
