Filtering

Filters help you find exactly the books you’re looking for.

Unlike browsing or searching, filters let you describe the characteristics of the books you want to see.

Every filter consists of three parts:

  • A field
  • An operator
  • A value

For example:

TitleContainsKing

returns every book whose title contains “King”.

BookVault can filter using many different properties, including:

  • Title
  • Subtitle
  • Authors
  • Translators
  • Illustrators
  • Categories
  • Tags
  • Series
  • Publishers
  • Languages
  • Reading Status
  • Ownership
  • Ratings

Available operators depend on the selected field.

Examples include:

  • Contains
  • Does not contain
  • Is
  • Is not
  • Has any value
  • Has no value

Multiple filters can be combined to build more advanced searches.

For example:

  • Fantasy books
  • Owned
  • Not yet read

or

  • Brandon Sanderson
  • Hardcover
  • Rating above 4 stars

Active filters appear above the Book List and can be removed individually at any time.

Tip Smart Tags are built using the same filtering system. Think of a Smart Tag as a saved filter that updates automatically.
