Basic Book Information
Every book in BookVault has a set of core information that identifies the work and its edition.
You can access these fields by opening a book and selecting Edit.
Cover Image
Section titled “Cover Image”Every book can have its own cover image.
When importing online, BookVault downloads the cover automatically whenever one is available.
You can also:
- Replace the cover image.
- Paste an image copied from another app.
- Remove the current image.
Different editions of the same work can each have their own cover.
Title and Subtitle
Section titled “Title and Subtitle”The title and subtitle are displayed throughout the app, including library lists, search results, and statistics.
Both fields can be edited at any time.
Summary
Section titled “Summary”The summary (or overview) contains a description of the book.
When importing online, this field is usually populated automatically, but you can edit it whenever you like.
Use this field for the book’s description. Keep personal reflections in the book’s notes or reading history so they remain separate from its bibliographic information.
Publication Information
Section titled “Publication Information”BookVault stores both:
- Publication date
- Original publication date
This is especially useful when you own a newer edition of an older work.
For example, your paperback may have been published in 2024 while the original novel first appeared in 1987.
Language
Section titled “Language”You can record:
- Language of this edition
- Original language of the work
This makes translated books much easier to organize.
Country of Publication
Section titled “Country of Publication”The country where this particular edition was published.
Unlike many other fields, this information usually cannot be imported automatically and may need to be entered manually.
Publishers
Section titled “Publishers”A book can have one or multiple publishers.
This is useful for books that have been co-published or released by different publishers depending on the edition.
