Editions

Different editions can have their own cover, language, translator, publisher, publication date, identifiers, formats, and purchase history while still representing the same work.

For example, you might have an English Kindle edition and a Spanish hardcover edition. Linking them tells BookVault that they are versions of the same work.

What linked editions share

Linked editions share reading history. If you finish one edition, the others can reflect that read without making you record the same book twice.

Depending on your Library settings, linked editions can also share categories or tags.

What stays independent

Each edition keeps its own:

• Cover and bibliographic information
• Language and contributors
• Identifiers and formats
• Publisher and publication date
• Purchase history

When to link editions

Link entries when they are genuinely different published versions of the same work, such as a translation, anniversary release, illustrated edition, or edition from another publisher.

Edition or format?

Use an edition for a version with its own publishing identity. Use a format for the physical, digital, or audio form in which you have that edition.
